Hell No H1N1

October 29, 2009 at 8:14 pm (Local, media craziness, News, Toronto) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Did you know that the letters in H1N1 stand for Hell, and No?… Well they do. So..

Will you be getting the H1N1 vaccine? Can they really make it mandatory? It feels like they are trying to force people using what else, scare tactics. It’s easy. When people are both scared, and in mass numbers, they’ll listen to whatever you tell them to do. Out of the 10,456 confirmed cases in Canada, 90-something have died. And just to put things in perspective.. The REGULAR flu kills 36,000 Americans every year, for reals yo. Nobody really panics about that, what’s up?

pls pet me I am not contagious

Don’t bow down to the fear mongering. Swine flu is hardly different than the regular flu that nobody seems to be losing their shit over. The government probably wants those crazy H1N1 vaccine lineups to be insane so they can justify spending the insane amount of money. They want to pump everyone full of both fear and a sketchy new untested vaccine. EVEN THIS RANDOM DOCTOR SAYS SO

I think my good friend Maddox sums things up pretty nicely…

Jam with Tamarama

Jay and Pottsy of Tamarama

Jay and Pottsy of Tamarama

So, my roomie Hilary and I went to a Darfur benefit concert this Tuesday at the Berkeley Heritage Church, featuring Australian import band, Tamarama.
You might recognize the frontman, Jay, from MTV’s The City. Once we managed to get past the fact that we were surrounded by swooning 16 year old girls, it was pretty fun. The bar was barren though so we had to make our way across the street to a very shady bar called Buffalo’s, where we got into an argument with a man about the skillset of Lady Gaga, and discussed the Dixie Chicks. Then his girlfriend threatened to beat us up, for allowing conversation.
ANYHOO. The show was fun, but what was more fun was coincidentally befriending the band’s manager, who allowed us our own meet and greet session.

. Everyone was soo excited to meet Jay and Pottsy because they are former models and Jay was on The City, AND dated the hottest girl alive, my favourite VS model. We were equally excited to meet the other guys too, the forgotten ones!

During our meet and greet, we half jokingly suggested they come to a bar with us, since we were probably the only girls in there of legal drinking age. And he proceeded to say the single greatest possible word that could have come out of his mouth at that exact moment…”Okay.”…. Wait, what? Now the pressure was on to think of a hip enough bar to impress them with, but the first suggestion that came out was, “not Buffalo’s”. Knowing where NOT to go is at least a start. I said if this actually happened I would eat my ticket.

Anyways, we ended up at the Drake Hotel, pretty snazzy. There was tequila, it got pretty sloppy, especially for a Tuesday night. We left Jay the hot aussie in a pool of admirers (how the eff did they get in, does the Drake only ID on weekends?) got some drunk pizza which was in a word, awesome, and made it home in time to sleep for an hour before work. W00t!

We did it all for the good cause! 100% of ticket sales went to benefit Darfur.

Police find body of missing York U student

June 1, 2009 at 1:44 pm (Local, News, Toronto) (, , , , , , , )

Shane’s body was discovered over the weekend, read details below. I wish his amazing and brave family who were so nice to my friends and I, all the support. At least there is at least a little bit of closure now.

Police have confirmed a body they found in the water near Ontario Place Saturday evening is that of missing York University student Shane Fair.

An off-duty police officer found the body Saturday afternoon, only steps away from where Fair was last seen on May 16.

Fair, who was 19, disappeared two weeks ago after attending a formal dinner and dance at Atlantis Pavilion at Ontario Place to celebrate the end of the school year.

He failed to get on the last bus that would have taken him back to campus.

Since his disappearance, the search for him was the subject of much media attention. His family and friends held a number of unsuccessful search parties to find him and plastered the waterfront and hydro poles downtown with posters, hoping for his return.

They had also started a Facebook group with photos and information on the search.

Police expanded the search for Fair Wednesday with divers and officers on the ground searching the buildings at Ontario Place.

Fair’s distraught parents had offered a $12,000 reward for anyone with information that would have brought him home. They had organized another search party which was to be held Sunday but was called off once Fair’s body was identified.

Just last night, his friends had hoped that a new security video released by the Westin Harbour Castle showed Fair walking along Queen’s Quay W. the night he disappeared. They believed he may have tried walking to his mother’s house in The Beach.

Fair was a Canadian Forces reservist and was set to join the army full-time the week after he disappeared.

An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the cause of his death.

MISSING

Shane Fair

Shane Fair

This is serious, Shane went to high school with myself and friends at Danforth Tech, then onto York University. He was last seen on Friday May 15th at the Atlantis Pavillion in Toronto by Ontario Place. Friends and family gathered for an unsuccessful search on Sunday afternoon, but we did manage to cover the downtown core with posters.
You can get more information from the Facebook group for Shane, which has over 3,000 members and counting. If you have ANY information at all, even if you think it’s useless, please call the number above in the poster. Every little bit helps. In the meantime, keep your thoughts with his family, who is remaining very strong, and hopeful through all of this!
